Movers in Delta, BC

Moving in Delta usually means a house: more than half the homes are single-detached, and almost one in five is a main floor or a suite in a two-unit house. Across North Delta, Ladner and Tsawwassen, we plan for driveways, suites and townhouse complexes, and for Delta's permit if anything goes on the road. Locally owned, with better labour prices than the big franchises, no hidden fees, and we answer our own phones.

Moving in Delta: what to know

Delta is a city of houses. In the 2021 Census, 56% of its homes were single-detached houses and another 19% were what the Census calls an apartment or flat in a duplex: one of two homes stacked one above the other, like a main floor with a suite below. Only 2% were in buildings of five or more storeys. About 24% of households rent, and roughly 12,300 residents had moved in the year before.

The City is three communities. North Delta is mostly detached homes and townhouses near the Surrey border, including Sunshine Hills. Ladner and Tsawwassen, further south, have village centres, farmland and homes near the water, and each has its own page: movers in Ladner and movers in Tsawwassen.

Townhouses. In North Delta's townhouse complexes, ask the strata where a moving truck can stop.

What every Delta move includes

  • Moving blankets and plastic wrap for furniture, dollies and straps for heavy pieces, and floor protection.
  • Beds, tables and other furniture taken apart where needed and put back together at the new place.
  • A crew sized to your home: usually 2 movers for a studio or one-bedroom, 3 for two or three bedrooms, and 4 for larger homes.
  • No travel fee, and no extra charge for stairs, a long carry or a building without an elevator.
  • Moves 7 days a week. A few days' notice is usually enough.
  • Boxes and supplies for sale: cardboard and wardrobe boxes, mattress and TV covers, tape, packing paper and bubble wrap.
  • Storage if there's a gap between moving out and moving in.
  • Anything you're not taking hauled away in the same booking.

As a rough guide, a one-bedroom move takes 3 to 4 hours, a two-bedroom 4 to 6 hours and a three-bedroom 6 to 9 hours. If you need to cancel a booked move, the deposit isn't refunded, but it can be moved to a new date.

Condo moves: you book the elevator and loading bay with your building. If your strata charges a fee for the move, BC's Strata Property Regulation allows a fee for using common property only when it is reasonable and set out in a bylaw or a ratified rule (section 6.9, checked 1 October 2026).

Parking the moving truck in Delta

Delta's Highway Use Permit covers work within the road dedication, including storage bins placed on the road and lane closures, and it asks for an insurance certificate naming the City as an additional insured ($5 million), among other documents. If you're using a moving or storage container on the road, ask the Engineering Department (604-946-3260) first. A moving truck stopped to load isn't on the City's list.

After snow, Delta clears emergency routes, arterials and major transit routes first. Select hilly residential areas are fourth priority and other residential areas fifth, both during normal working hours, so a move on a North Delta hillside street after a snowfall may have to wait.

Before moving day in Delta

  • Clearing out first? Every household on City curbside collection gets four large-item pick-ups a year through Remple Disposal, (604) 835-1792. Items go out by 7am on the date they give you, not before.
  • A few extra bags of garbage after packing? City garbage stickers are $7.50 for a sheet of six, at City Hall or the North and South Delta Recreation Centres.
  • Using a moving or storage container on the road? Ask Delta Engineering (604-946-3260) about a Highway Use Permit first.
  • On a North Delta hillside street, keep an eye on the forecast: after snow, hilly residential streets are cleared after the main routes.
  • Moving to or from Westham Island? Tell us when you book, so we plan around its bridge.

Moving to or from Delta

North Delta sits beside Surrey. Moves north to Richmond and Vancouver cross the Fraser through the George Massey Tunnel or over the Alex Fraser Bridge; the tunnel has a posted height restriction that sends taller vehicles over the Alex Fraser instead, and peak crossings are slow, so timing affects how long an hourly move takes, not the price. Local moves are priced by the size of the home, as the table above shows, with no travel fee.

We also move households within BC and to Alberta. Long-distance moves within BC currently run $2,000 to $9,000, and moves to Alberta $3,000 to $10,000, depending on the size of the home and the distance.

Questions

Straight answers

How much do movers cost in Delta?

Delta moves are mostly whole houses, and they're priced by the size of the home. A studio or one-bedroom move is a flat $599, and a 20% deposit ($120) books the date. Two-bedroom homes run $800 to $1,400 and three-bedroom homes $1,200 to $2,000; hourly moves are $120 to $180 an hour for 2 movers and a truck. There is no travel fee.

Do you move in North Delta, Ladner and Tsawwassen?

Yes, all three. Ladner and Tsawwassen have their own moving pages with the local detail for each.

Can Delta's large-item pick-up take things I'm not moving?

Up to four items a year for households on City curbside collection, booked with Remple Disposal and put out by 7am on their date. It won't take renovation materials, yard waste, tires, hot tubs or anything two people can't lift; we can haul most of those away in the same booking.

Do I need a permit for a moving container on a Delta street?

Storage bins placed on the road are on the list of work that needs Delta's Highway Use Permit, which also asks for an insurance certificate naming the City. Ask the Engineering Department (604-946-3260) before you book a container.

Do you move from Delta to the Interior or Alberta?

Yes. Long-distance moves within BC currently run $2,000 to $9,000, and moves to Alberta $3,000 to $10,000, depending on the size of the home and the distance. We don't move households beyond Alberta.
