Junk removal in Delta: what to know

The City of Delta is three communities: North Delta, Ladner and Tsawwassen. They share one set of City rules for garbage, and those rules decide most of what people call a hauler for.

The City's Large Item Pick-Up Program is the first thing to know. Every household on curbside garbage collection can have up to four large items picked up a year, booked with the City's collection contractor, Remple Disposal. It covers sofas, mattresses, appliances and other furniture, collected from the curb on a date the contractor sets. It has firm limits: nothing two people can't lift, mattresses dry and wrapped in plastic, furniture in one piece, and a long list of things it won't take at all, from renovation materials and yard waste to tires and hot tubs.

That leaves plenty for us: anything past the four-item limit, anything that has to be carried out of the house, and everything on the City's refused list that we do take.

Delta is also where the Vancouver Landfill is, on 72nd Street. It's run by the City of Vancouver, not Delta, under Vancouver's own fee schedule, shown below.

For the specifics of each community, see junk removal in Ladner and junk removal in Tsawwassen.

The jobs we get called for in Delta

What the City's program refuses

Delta's Large Item Pick-Up won't take renovation materials such as cabinets, counters, toilets, tubs, sinks, flooring, wood and concrete, or yard trimmings, dirt, rock and sod, tires, electronics, glass, auto parts or hot tubs. Most of that is routine for us: renovation debris, yard waste and soil go by the load, tires are priced with the rest of the load, electronics go through our e-waste pickup, and hot tubs are quoted per item. Drywall is the exception; we don't take it either.

Past the four-item limit

Four items a year goes quickly in a move or a clear-out, and unused pick-ups don't carry over. A fifth sofa, or a garage full of mixed things, is one visit for us.

Carrying it out of the house

The City's contractor collects from the curb only, and anything two people can't handle stays behind. We carry from the basement, the upstairs bedroom or the back of the garage, with no extra charge for stairs.

Furniture that's already been taken apart

The City's program won't take furniture that has been cut or broken down, or loose or bagged household items. We take both as part of the load.

Garage and yard clean-ups

A garage cleanout is one flat rate, whatever is in it, with the dump fees included. Branches, hedge trimmings and soil from a Delta yard are priced by the load; soil is priced differently from light trimmings because it is so much heavier.

Delta housing and the areas we cover

North Delta is mostly detached homes and townhouses near the Surrey border, including Sunshine Hills. Ladner and Tsawwassen, further south, have village centres, farmland and homes near the water. Across all three, garages, sheds and yards are what fill up, so garage cleanouts and yard waste are the common calls.

Every household on City curbside collection can put out two standard garbage cans or bags a week, each 25 kg or less, by 7am on collection day. More than that needs a garbage sticker on each extra can or bag.

What moves the price in Delta

Two loads of the same size can be quoted differently. These are the things that change the number, in roughly the order they matter.

FactorWhat it does to the quote
How much there isFrom a single item at the curb up to a full truck, as the table shows.
What kind of junkSoil, sod and concrete are priced differently from the same volume of furniture because they weigh more. Appliances and scrap metal are free.
Stairs and the carryNo extra charge, from any floor or any corner of the yard.
Hot tubsQuoted per item on the specialty row; the City's program won't take them.

Getting a truck to your door in Delta

Hills and snow. Delta's snow plan clears emergency routes, arterials and major transit routes first. Select hilly residential areas are fourth priority and other select residential areas fifth, both cleared during normal working hours. After a snowfall, a pickup on a North Delta hillside street may need to wait until it's cleared.

Westham Island. It's reached by its own bridge; during bridge work in 2023 the City asked residents to have waste out by 7am, ahead of daytime closures. Mention it when you book so we can plan around the bridge.

Curb or house. Unlike the City's program, we don't need anything at the curb. Tell us where the pile is and where a truck can stop.

How to get ready for the crew in Delta

None of this is required — we do the lifting. Each one either saves you money or saves us a surprise on the day.

  • For one or two large items, check your four City pick-ups first: book with Remple Disposal at (604) 835-1792 or largeitempickup@rempledisposal.com, and put the items out by 7am on the day they give you, not before.
  • For a few extra bags of household garbage, a City garbage sticker may be enough: sheets of six cost $7.50 at City Hall or the North and South Delta Recreation Centres.
  • The City's Spring Clean-Up is an extra curbside pick-up for excess and bulky items once a year. In 2026 it ran on March 30 in Tsawwassen, March 31 in Ladner and April 9 or 10 in North Delta.
  • Set aside drywall, anything that may contain asbestos, paint, fuel and chemicals; we don't take them. Empty propane tanks can go with the load.
  • Photograph the pile and the route out, and attach the photos to your quote request.

Where Delta junk actually goes

The Vancouver Landfill at 5400 72nd Street is inside Delta, and it is where the City of Delta itself sends residents with oversized or bulky items. It's a City of Vancouver facility, so it charges under Vancouver's schedule, shown in the fee table above, and it takes residents' used drywall, which we don't haul.

Dump fees are included in our price, so none of these charges shows up as a separate line on your bill. Usable items are sometimes donated, but we don't promise it.

What can’t just go in the truck

Metro Vancouver bans certain materials from the garbage stream and surcharges any load that contains them, at every facility serving Delta. That is the main reason two loads of the same size can cost different amounts: sorting before we tip is what keeps the disposal half of your quote down. Tell us if any of these are in the pile and we will plan the load around them.

Recyclables that can't ride along in the garbage

These are banned from the garbage stream because they have somewhere better to go. Most are surcharged once they pass a share of the load, so separating them before the truck is tipped is what keeps a load cheap.

  • Beverage containers, except milk product containers
  • Glass, metal, recyclable plastic and composite containers
  • Corrugated cardboard
  • Recyclable paper
  • Yard trimmings
  • Food waste
  • Clean wood
  • Expanded polystyrene packaging

When it costs extra: Most are surcharged above 5% of the load, with all banned materials combined capped at 5%. Food waste is allowed to 25% and expanded polystyrene to 20%, and those two are excluded from the combined total.

Hazardous and operational-impact materials

These are restricted because they are dangerous to handle or they damage the facility. One item is enough for a surcharge (at least $80 at Metro Vancouver facilities), plus the potential cost of removal, clean-up or remediation.

  • Propane tanks
  • Liquids and sludge, and any liquid container 205 L or larger
  • Gypsum (drywall) and mattresses, which have their own rates
  • Automobile bodies and parts
  • Wire, hose, rope and cable over 1 metre long
  • Inert fill — soil, sod, gravel, concrete and asphalt — over 0.5 cubic metres per load
  • Single objects over 100 kg, 2.5 m long or 1.2 m wide (1.0 m at the Waste-to-Energy Facility)
  • Railroad ties and creosote-treated wood
  • Giant hogweed, daphne/spurge laurel and devil's club, taken only at the Waste-to-Energy Facility
  • Hazardous waste as defined by the BC Hazardous Waste Regulation

When it costs extra: Surcharged if a single item is found in the load, plus any remediation cost.

Product stewardship materials with their own return programs

BC's Recycling Regulation gives these their own take-back programs, so they are banned from garbage loads at the facilities. Most can be returned free at a depot, which is usually cheaper than paying to dispose of them.

  • Paint and paint containers
  • Solvents, flammable liquids and gasoline
  • Pesticides
  • Oil, oil filters, oil containers and lubricating oils
  • Antifreeze and its containers
  • Lead acid batteries
  • Pharmaceuticals and medications
  • Electronics and electrical products, including metal household or commercial appliances
  • Tires

When it costs extra: Surcharged if a single item is found in the load, plus any remediation cost.

Questions

Straight answers

Does the City of Delta pick up large items?

Yes, up to four a year for households on City curbside garbage collection. You book with the City's contractor, Remple Disposal, at (604) 835-1792, and put the items at the curb by 7am on the day they give you. Items must be in one piece and liftable by two people, and mattresses must be dry and wrapped in plastic. (City of Delta, checked 28 September 2026.)

What won't Delta's large item pick-up take?

Renovation materials (cabinets, counters, toilets, tubs, sinks, flooring, wood, concrete, drywall), yard trimmings, dirt, rock and sod, tires, electronics, glass, auto parts, propane tanks and hot tubs, among others. We take most of that: renovation debris, yard waste and soil by the load, tires with the load, electronics through our e-waste pickup and hot tubs per item. We don't take drywall. (City of Delta, checked 28 September 2026.)

How much does junk removal cost in Delta?

One price with the dump fees included, set by how much junk there is and what kind; the pricing table above has the ranges. There's no extra charge for stairs, and the price is the same in North Delta, Ladner and Tsawwassen.

Do you offer same-day junk removal in Delta?

Yes. Same-day pickup is guaranteed across Delta, as it is across Metro Vancouver, at no extra charge.

Do you cover Ladner and Tsawwassen?

Yes, and each has its own page: Ladner for the village and Westham Island, and Tsawwassen for the City of Delta and Tsawwassen First Nation programs.
