Movers in Port Coquitlam, BC

Most Port Coquitlam moves are houses and townhouses, often with a basement or a suite. Many of the City's lanes are gravel, so if the truck will load from the lane we plan for it, and in a townhouse complex we plan around the strata's rules and visitor parking. Locally owned, with better labour prices than the big franchises, no hidden fees, and we answer our own phones.

Moving in Port Coquitlam: what to know

Port Coquitlam is a city of houses and townhouses. In the 2021 Census, 37% of its homes were single-detached houses, 16% row houses and 15% apartments or flats in a duplex, while only 2% were in buildings of five or more storeys. Fewer than one household in four rents (23%), and about one resident in ten had moved in the year before.

PoCo is also mostly flat: the City's Official Community Plan calls its ground primarily low relief, with Mary Hill the main exception. So the effort on a PoCo move is rarely the grade. It's the carry, from a basement, a detached garage, a back lane or the far side of a townhouse complex. The plan also allows secondary suites and accessory dwelling units, so a property may hold a tenant as well as an owner.

What every Port Coquitlam move includes

  • Moving blankets and plastic wrap for furniture, dollies and straps for heavy pieces, and floor protection.
  • Beds, tables and other furniture taken apart where needed and put back together at the new place.
  • A crew sized to your home: usually 2 movers for a studio or one-bedroom, 3 for two or three bedrooms, and 4 for larger homes.
  • No travel fee, and no extra charge for stairs, a long carry or a building without an elevator.
  • Moves 7 days a week. A few days' notice is usually enough.
  • Boxes and supplies for sale: cardboard and wardrobe boxes, mattress and TV covers, tape, packing paper and bubble wrap.
  • Storage if there's a gap between moving out and moving in.
  • Anything you're not taking hauled away in the same booking.

As a rough guide, a one-bedroom move takes 3 to 4 hours, a two-bedroom 4 to 6 hours and a three-bedroom 6 to 9 hours. If you need to cancel a booked move, the deposit isn't refunded, but it can be moved to a new date.

Condo moves: you book the elevator and loading bay with your building. If your strata charges a fee for the move, BC's Strata Property Regulation allows a fee for using common property only when it is reasonable and set out in a bylaw or a ratified rule (section 6.9, checked 1 October 2026).

Parking the moving truck in Port Coquitlam

Port Coquitlam's lanes are worth knowing about. The City has 17 km of gravel lanes, says most of its lanes are unpaved, and grades every gravel lane twice a year. If the truck will load from the lane, tell us whether the furniture is nearer the lane or the street.

The City's own road permits, the Highway Use Permit and the Road Closure Permit, are for development, construction, utility and event work; its pages don't set out a permit for a moving truck stopped to load. On a townhouse site, check with the strata where a truck can stand.

Before moving day in Port Coquitlam

  • Tell us whether furniture is in a basement, a detached garage or a suite, and whether the truck can load from the lane.
  • In a townhouse complex, ask the strata where a moving truck can stand.
  • In a Downtown or Northside building, book the elevator and loading area first.
  • Clearing out first? If your property pays the City's solid waste levy, its large-item pick-up is free for up to six items a year (two pick-ups of up to three, or one of four to six). Renters need the owner's permission, and items go out by 7am on the City's date, not before.
  • Take leftover paint, solvents and old gasoline to PoCo Return-It on Kingsway before moving day.

Straight answers

How much do movers cost in Port Coquitlam?

PoCo moves are mostly houses and townhouses, and they're priced by the size of the home. A studio or one-bedroom move is a flat $599, and a 20% deposit ($120) books the date. Two-bedroom homes run $800 to $1,400 and three-bedroom homes $1,200 to $2,000; hourly moves are $120 to $180 an hour for 2 movers and a truck. There is no travel fee.

Can you load the truck from my back lane in Port Coquitlam?

Often, yes. Most PoCo lanes are gravel, and the City grades them twice a year. Tell us whether the furniture is nearer the lane or the street and we'll plan where the truck stops.

Do you move houses with a suite in Port Coquitlam?

Yes. Tell us whether the whole property is moving or a tenant is staying, and which parts we're moving.

Is the City's free large-item pick-up useful before a move?

If your property pays the City's solid waste levy, yes: up to six items a year, put out by 7am on the date the City gives you. Renters need the owner's permission. Anything it won't take, we can haul away in the same booking.
