Movers in West Vancouver, BC

Most West Vancouver moves are houses, many on hillside lots in the British Properties and the upper slopes, where everything comes down a steep driveway or a long run of stairs. Condos in Ambleside and Dundarave are the other common move, with strata elevator bookings, and occupying any part of the street for the truck needs the District's permit. Locally owned, with better labour prices than the big franchises, no hidden fees, and we answer our own phones.

Moving in West Vancouver: what to know

West Vancouver is mostly houses. In the 2021 Census, 56% of its homes were single-detached houses and 22% were in buildings of five or more storeys. About 29% of households rent, and roughly 6,000 residents had moved in the year before.

Moves here are shaped by the slope. Homes in the British Properties sit on steep hillside driveways, long stair runs are common, and the streets of Ambleside and Dundarave are narrow. Pianos, large furniture and full-house moves come up often, and so do downsizing moves.

Homes and buildings: moving day in West Vancouver

Hillside houses. In the British Properties and on the upper slopes, everything comes down a steep driveway or a long run of stairs to where the truck can stop. There's no extra charge for the grade or the stairs; tell us about them so we send enough movers and the right equipment for pianos and heavy furniture.

Condos. Ambleside and Dundarave buildings follow strata elevator bookings. Book yours and send us the window.

Downsizing. Moving from a large family home to something smaller? We move what's going and can haul away what isn't in the same booking.

What every West Vancouver move includes

  • Moving blankets and plastic wrap for furniture, dollies and straps for heavy pieces, and floor protection.
  • Beds, tables and other furniture taken apart where needed and put back together at the new place.
  • A crew sized to your home: usually 2 movers for a studio or one-bedroom, 3 for two or three bedrooms, and 4 for larger homes.
  • No travel fee, and no extra charge for stairs, a long carry or a building without an elevator.
  • Moves 7 days a week. A few days' notice is usually enough.
  • Boxes and supplies for sale: cardboard and wardrobe boxes, mattress and TV covers, tape, packing paper and bubble wrap.
  • Storage if there's a gap between moving out and moving in.
  • Anything you're not taking hauled away in the same booking.

As a rough guide, a one-bedroom move takes 3 to 4 hours, a two-bedroom 4 to 6 hours and a three-bedroom 6 to 9 hours. If you need to cancel a booked move, the deposit isn't refunded, but it can be moved to a new date.

Condo moves: you book the elevator and loading bay with your building. If your strata charges a fee for the move, BC's Strata Property Regulation allows a fee for using common property only when it is reasonable and set out in a bylaw or a ratified rule (section 6.9, checked 1 October 2026).

Parking the moving truck in West Vancouver

The District of West Vancouver requires a street occupancy permit whenever any part of a boulevard, sidewalk, roadway or public lane is temporarily occupied. The application, with a sketch of the area, has to be in ten working days before the date, and the District asks for an insurance certificate naming it as an additional insured. The fee is a base amount plus a charge per square metre per week, with a separate signage fee if temporary no-parking signs are needed. In August 2025 the District's page listed $130 plus $2 per square metre per week, and signs from $260; check the current fee when you apply.

On the narrow streets of Ambleside and Dundarave, tell us where a truck can legally stop near your door.

Before moving day in West Vancouver

  • Tell us how steep the driveway is, how many stairs there are, and how far the door is from where a truck can stop.
  • If the truck will need part of the road or boulevard, apply for the District's street occupancy permit ten working days ahead.
  • Keep moving-day garbage inside until the morning of collection. The District asks for this because of bears.
  • A little extra household garbage after packing? The District's extra garbage tags are $6 for each extra 77-litre bag or can.
  • Moving a piano? Tell us the type and the stairs at both ends when you book.

Moving to or from West Vancouver

A move from West Vancouver into Vancouver crosses the Lions Gate Bridge, and peak crossings are slow, so timing affects how long an hourly move takes, not the price. Moves within the North Shore stay on this side of the water. Local moves are priced by the size of the home, as the table above shows, with no travel fee.

We also move households to the rest of BC and to Alberta. Long-distance moves within BC currently run $2,000 to $9,000, and moves to Alberta $3,000 to $10,000, depending on the size of the home and the distance.

Questions

Straight answers

How much do movers cost in West Vancouver?

A hillside house in the British Properties is priced by the size of the home, not the driveway. A studio or one-bedroom move is a flat $599, and a 20% deposit ($120) books the date. Two-bedroom homes run $800 to $1,400 and three-bedroom homes $1,200 to $2,000; hourly moves are $120 to $180 an hour for 2 movers and a truck. There is no travel fee.

Do you charge extra for steep driveways and stairs in the British Properties?

No. Steep driveways and long stair runs never change the price. Tell us about them so we send enough movers and the right equipment.

Do I need a permit to park a moving truck in West Vancouver?

If the truck will occupy part of a road, boulevard, sidewalk or lane, the District requires a street occupancy permit. Apply ten working days ahead, with a sketch of the area; the District also asks for an insurance certificate naming it as an additional insured.

Do you move pianos in West Vancouver?

Yes, uprights and grands. Tell us the type and the stairs at both ends when you book; piano moves are quoted on their own.

Can you move me from West Vancouver to the Interior or Alberta?

Yes. Long-distance moves within BC currently run $2,000 to $9,000, and moves to Alberta $3,000 to $10,000, depending on the size of the home and the distance. We don't move households beyond Alberta.
